Nose: It smells like a spring afternoon, sweet and crisp. Wafting into the nose first are notes of fruit cake, oatmeal biscuits, lemon meringue, green apple, and a touch of eucalyptus essential oil. A few drops of water reveal floral and tea-like aromas.
Palate: Despite the soft sweetness on the nose, it arrives with a surprising bite, with flavors of honey, red apple peel, ginger, blackcurrant juice, and a hint of pineapple.
Finish: Short to medium length. Malt sugar with a touch of oaky bitterness.
Verdict: This is basically whisky’s version of chardonnay: light-bodied but not bland. Personally, I prefer it without water, as even a splash of water seems to wash away too much of its character. Overall, it’s a lovely, easygoing dram for a relaxed evening and a great entry point for anyone stepping into whisky.
