Nose: A burst of dried fruits — sultanas, plums, dates, and figs — layered with overripe pineapple, milk chocolate, hazelnuts, and cereal. A faint hint of leather sits in the background.
Palate: Coating the tongue with a waxy mouthfeel. It opens with a caramelized sweetness, like the top of a creme brûlée. Cocoa, honey, licorice, and burnt brown sugar. The heat comes in gradually with control.
Finish: Medium to long finish, weaving together bitterness, sweetness, and spiciness. Honey and orange peel carry through with a zingy kick.
Verdict: This has been a staple on my whisky shelf for years. It delivers classic Scotch character with refined Sherry influence. If you’re looking for a full-on Sherry bomb, this may feel restrained. But that elegant integration is exactly what makes this whisky so versatile and appealing to both new and seasoned whisky drinkers. Personally, I love it with steak, dark chocolate, or simply on its own as a nightcap.
Score: 89
